Paedophiles are to be offered free Prozac as a softer alternative to ‘chemical castration’, it has emerged.

The Government secured headlines this summer when it promised offenders would be given – on a voluntary basis – strong medication to curb their sex drive.

However, these drugs, which amount to chemical castration by making it difficult to have sex, have a number of side-effects which could deter potential users.

Council’s ‘abuse of power’

A COUNCIL has been accused of `an abuse of power of nightmarish proportions’ after it took an Asbo out against a woman without checking whether the allegations against her were true.

The local authority at Manchester – nicknamed the Asbo capital of Britain – was told to review procedures and to pay the woman £2,000 compensation.

44% Of HIV+ Men In London Undiagnosed

More than one in three HIV positive gay men say they have unprotected sex, a survey reveals.

The surveys were carried out at 90 gay bars, clubs and saunas in London, Manchester and Brighton.

Over 2,000 men provided saliva samples. Of these, one in three of the men with HIV did not know they had the virus.

Demonstrators in Mumbai (Bombay) set light to effigies of the Hollywood star, while protesters in other cities shouted “death to Shilpa Shetty”.

Mad Dog builds African orphanage now

LEADING loyalist Johnny ‘Mad Dog’ Adair has gone to war-torn Uganda to help build an orphanage funded by neoNazi supporters in Germany.

The orphanage will be named after C Company, Adair’s notorious Shankill Road UDA unit which murdered 43 Catholics.

“It’s a great idea and I’m hoping it will help a lot of underprivileged African children. There are a lot of people worse off than us in other parts of the world. I want to put something back into society, ” Adair told the Sunday Tribune as he set off for Uganda on a 10day trip last week.

The man who deceived police during the Yorkshire Ripper case with false claims he was the killer has been jailed for eight years at Leeds Crown Court.

John Humble taunted detectives when he claimed to be the Ripper in three letters and an audio tape in the 1970s.

His actions made police concentrate their hunt in Sunderland while the Ripper continued to kill in Yorkshire.

Humble, 50, of Flodden Road, Sunderland, had admitted four charges of perverting the course of justice.

Judge Norman Jones told him his offences were at the upper end of seriousness when it came to perverting justice.

COUNCIL SET TO POUR EXTRA £70,000 INTO PARK AND RIDE `FLOP’

A PARK and ride scheme that was branded an expensive flop last year is to receive an extra £70,000 of council funding over the next two years.

The Lakeside park and ride scheme, based at the Vue cinema car park on Herten Way, was launched in September 2004 offering motorists the chance to park for free and buy a £1 return ticket into the town centre.

But a Free Press investigation revealed that just 14 people used the site in the first six months of 2005 – and opponents claim that, by continuing to fund the scheme, Doncaster Council is throwing good money after bad.

Coun Eric Tatton-Kelly (Lib Dem) said: “Whenever you drive past that park and ride, the car park is empty. Nobody is using it.

Liberal Democrat leadership contender Simon Hughes has explained why he has admitted having gay relationships.

The 54-year-old MP said in Thursday’s Sun that in the past he had had relationships with both women and men.

He said he had considered pulling out of the leadership contest but did not think the issue should disqualify him from playing a part in public life.

He apologised if he had misled people when he recently denied being gay – saying he had not intended to do so.

Mr Hughes told BBC Radio Five Live the situation had become “unmanageable” this week as newspapers put more allegations, most of them untrue, to his campaign team.

He wanted to be judged on his plans for the future of his party.

His leadership rivals, Sir Menzies Campbell and Treasury spokesman Chris Huhne, both said his private life should not affect the leadership race.
