A MUM branded her daughter’s school racist after it banned white children from wearing hair braids – but not black pupils.
Julie Tudor’s daughter Stephanie, 13, has been told to remove them or face being taught in isolation.
Her school has ruled that her tight plaits and pretty pink beads are an “extreme hairstyle” banned under its code of conduct.
The youngster has already been punished by being kept indoors at breaktimes away from her pals.
But teachers have taken no action against one of her classmates with the same hairdo because she has an Afro- Caribbean background.
Julie stormed: “I don’t think hairstyles should have anything to do with what colour you are.
“To me, everybody’s equal whether they be white, black, brown or yellow, and everybody should have the same rights, especially in a school.
“To force a girl to study alone, away from her friends, just because of how she’s wearing her hair is disgraceful.
“I can’t see how it’s hurting anyone. If black people are allowed to wear braids, then why can’t Stephanie?” The teenager – who attends St Edmund Arrowsmith RC High, close to her home in Wigan, Lancs – said: “I didn’t know that there was a problem with having my hair like this.
