9,000 immigrant workers move to Lancashire

The number of immigrant workers moving to Lancashire is on the increase, with nearly 9,000 coming into to the county last year.
The county has seen 8,910 workers, mainly from Poland, India and China, given National Insurance numbers last year, according to statistics from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

Preston comes out on top of the county table with 1,460 immigrant workers making applications, with 490 being from Poland and 240 from India.

There were even 20 workers coming to the city from Malaysia and a further 10 from Vietnam and Taiwan.

South Ribble saw an influx of 270 workers, with 130 from Poland, and a further 80 Poles arrived in Chorley, which welcomed 210 migrant workers, while Lancaster saw 1,320 workers arrive between 2005 and 2006.
