The British amateur historian says he literally stumbled across it - a huge German gun battery hidden on the Normandy coast.
Built in 1942 the fortification at Grandcamp Maisy was one of 40 batteries along the coast - tucked behind the cliffs of Omaha and Pointe-du-Hoc.
