British generosity is abused. BNP offers only solution.
The bitter exchanges between the parties over immigration and asylum intensified on Friday as Michael Howard accused the government of giving “special privileges for special interest groups”.
In a speech claiming Britain was the home of “fair play”, the Conservative leader sought to cast his party as the voice of common sense in contrast to the government which he said seemed “to have a completely different set of values to everyone else.”
Mr Howard said he was determined “to stop people abusing Britain’s generosity”. The Tories would continue to give refuge to those genuinely fleeing persecution, but said the country could not afford to accommodate them all.
Mr Howard continued: “Only two out of ten people who claim asylum in Britain today are genuine refugees. So what happens to the people who are not genuine refugees? Are they sent home? No. There are now almost 250,000 failed asylum seekers living in Britain today.”
