FOUR of the suspects seized over the gun slaughter of WPC Sharon Beshenivsky are asylum seekers.

Last night murder cops were urgently checking the Somalis’ status with immigration officials.

The Sun can also reveal Sharon’s killers are thought to have got away with less than £2,000 after gunning her down with fellow probationer cop Teresa Milburn, 37, in a Bradford robbery.

The Somalis came to Britain in the 1990s.

POLICE Federation chief Jan Berry yesterday called for the number of armed cops to be doubled to one in ten.

She said: “Our members have indicated the number is insufficient to deal with the threat they face.”

The federation urged an increase in 2003 — after the killing of West Yorks officer PC Ian Broadhurst.

The men were allowed to stay after claiming they faced persecution in their homeland. But detectives want to know if the permission was permanent or temporary.

The four were arrested with an Asian man and a white woman in a series of dramatic swoops in South London on Saturday.

The three raids — two in the Plumstead area — came the day after mum-of-five Sharon, 38, was shot dead and her colleague wounded.

The WPCs were investigating an alarm set off at a travel agency.
