The BBC has been busy in the past few days using British licence payers’ money to promote a set of racially discriminatory music awards.

The Music of Black Origin (MOBO) award ceremony takes place this evening (Weds 6th) and is broadcast on BBC1. The music is exclusively of Afro-Caribbean origin and includes awards for Best Gospel Act, Best Reggae Act, and Best HipHop Act.

Reverse discrimination

Such awards discriminate against White European music and the music of other ethnic groups. However the BBC sees fit to use funds from the majority to support music culture of one special minority. Many folk of non Afro Caribbean origin have a pretty dim view of rap and hip-hop and other genres and these awards exclude a large section of the majority.

Apart from dumping your TV set or not paying your licence fee when the reminder comes, one can complain to the BBC although they have a political agenda to follow so are unlikely to pay attention to our complaints. So we thought we would use our growing presence on the Internet to host a set of virtual MOWO awards.

The BNP is the only organisation in this country with the courage and enterprise to set up such a set of awards on the Internet and the response so far has been overwhelmingly encouraging. Keep your nominations coming in.

For the next 3 days we want to hear from our viewers to nominate your favourite and best loved piece of European created music in five very different categories. Just as the BBC are promoting one specific racial group in their MOBO Awards, we are narrowing down our choices to music that has been created by the White European majority whether they live, or have lived in Britain, Ireland or overseas. At midnight on Friday 8th nominations close. A shortlist of the most popular nominations will be drawn up and voting will then take place for the subsequent shortlisted candidates. Voting will stop at 8pm on Sunday evening (10th) with the winners in each of the 5 categories announced shortly thereafter.

We cannot of course make presentations as some of winners may well have passed on but their legacy remains. There won’t be any bitchiness at the award “ceremony”, certainly no need for a heavy police presence and no candidates hauled off-stage for violent behaviour or drug abuse!

Best piece of Classical music

There is certain to be some strong rivalry here. Could it be Jupiter from Holst’s Planet Suite, The opening of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony or any masterpiece from the repertoire of Mozart, Bach, Elgar, Vaughan Williams or Sibelius.

Best piece of contemporary popular music

This category is as open and vague as possible. Could it be your favourite punk or electro band from the 1980s? A track from the days of Oi! or that heavy metal track which gets you playing the air guitar? We have many younger viewers who might opt for a more modern favourite lost on us oldies! Maybe a Robbie Williams or (my niece is shouting in my ear at this point) a “Girls Aloud” track!

Best film soundtrack

There is no shortage of excellent possibilities here. From Enya (”Lord of the Rings”), Vangelis (”1492″, “Bladerunner”, “Chariots of Fire”), and John Williams (”Star Wars”, “Harry Potter”) to Walton’s wartime action “Dambusters”.

Best hymn

Even non churchgoers will have a favourite probably a reminder from schooldays. Will you chose “Onward Christian Soldiers”, the Christmas classic “Silent Night” or the uplifting “He Who Would True Valiant Be”?

Best IONA folk tune

We have narrowed the selection down to these islands of the North Atlantic because there is so much collected folk music from Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England that we could not handle all the material from continental Europe as well as English speaking countries overseas. Popular favourites such as “Do ye ken John Peel”, “The Waxies’ Dargle”, “Black Velvet Band”, “Men of Harlech”, “Lincolnshire Poacher”, “Banks of Loch Lomond” are sure to feature in our shortlist or perhaps you have other ideas?
