A TORY aristocrat has bowed to pressure and blocked plans for a quarry at a beauty spot.
Construction firm Tarmac wanted to excavate sand and gravel on Lord Ancram’s land at Timpendean, near Jedburgh, but locals opposed the scheme.
Yesterday, Lord Ancram, 60, MP for Devizes, Wiltshire, announced he had decided against signing a lease with Tarmac, adding: “I said from the outset we would listen to the views of the local people.”
