No room for free speech in the media

On Friday, January 28th 2005 in The Guardian an interesting letter was published. A few days earlier the Guardian had contacted Simon Darby for his comments on the speech by Michael Howard where he said that to debate immigration into Britain was not ‘ racist ‘.

One of the signatories to the letter was “John Fray, Deputy general secretary, National Union of Journalists”.

This letter demanded that The Guardian and other newspapers refuse to print the views and opinions of the BNP and that they should use their newspapers to ‘ campaign ‘ against the BNP in the lead up to the General Election.

John Fray is the deputy general secretary of the trade union that is supposed to defend the right of journalists in Britain to print the truth and not suffer political pressure to print lies for the owners of their papers or the government.

But here we have the second in command of the union demanding that newspapers refuse the BNP the right to comment, to respond to lies printed about us and for papers to be used as propaganda weapons to attack the BNP.
