[Are you coming out of the closet then red ken? Still support IRA? Why don't you keep your nose out of Russian affairs! Does anyone in Moscow tell you how to run (cough) London? How many gay parades did they have in London under communism?-ed]
Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, has given his strong support to the Moscow Gay Pride Parade and urged the authorities in Moscow to allow the parade to take place.
Last week the Mayor of Moscow, Yury Luzhkov, said that all attempts to organise a gay parade, in any form, open or disguised, will be “resolutely quashed”.
His press secretary said that the reports about the proposed parade “have evoked outrage on society, in particular among religious leaders.”
Livingstone urged the authorities to reverse their decision and “in the spirit of respect for universal human rights” let the Gay Pride Parade take place.
“I believe that equality for lesbians and gay men is a fundamental human right. Equality must include the right to hold Gay Pride Parades and other public events, which celebrate the contribution of the lesbian and gay communities to the life of the world’s great cities,” Livingstone said.
