BBC bosses have been left red-faced after an Iraqi cameraman they flew to the UK for a training course claimed asylum when he got here.
Samir Ghazi was brought over to Britain for the three week course by the corporation this summer and was supposed to continue filming in Baghdad.
But instead the 43-year-old surprised BBC bosses - who have spent thousands of pounds flying the cameraman to the UK - by deciding to claim political asylum and resigning his post. He claims it is too dangerous to return to his home country and is now planning to pursue his career in Britain.
