
Terminals at Heathrow and Gatwick could be run by competing companies as part of a shake-up of BAA’s stranglehold of the country’s airports.
An even more radical move under consideration would be having Heathrow’s two runways operated by rivals.
One of London’s big three airports could also be put up for sale to break the operator’s monopoly.
If BAA is forced to give up a London airport, aviation experts believe that Gatwick is the most likely candidate for a sale and could fetch £3billion.
